Hi there, and welcome to our #whileinside #stayathome Blog series! Today we had the pleasure to chat with Romina F. Nicolino, Director of Strategic Development, Innovation en AQUA Spa Consulting, about how location & Authenticity are essential for spa concept development.

Romina has a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism in Hospitality; she worked in many hotels in Argentina and Europe before starting her firm. The idea of becoming a consultant surged to a detailed observation of the lack of planning from hotel developers when it comes to the Spa space, location & Authenticity within the service offer.

According to Romina, from the developer standpoint, the Spa comes as a secondary, or let’s say complementary area when it comes to a hotel when in reality is and will be an essential part of the hotel sales promise.

The impact of COVID19 is making us rethink the business model for Spa and all wellness services, where Spa should think about changing not only operations but also locations to a more nature inclusive space, where social distancing can be standard practice.

Confidence needs to be a principle, walk your talk. Create clear policies for operations for employees and clients. Focus on wellness, not on fear, create healthy habits, and make healthy choices.

To create an innovative Spa concept, here are few recommendations from Romina:

  • Location, take advantage of the hotel, establishment location, is located at the beach, forest, mountains, etc.
  • Use the Authenticity, culture, local products, and local professionals available.
  • Apply local to worldwide guidelines within the hotel brand.
  • Use cross-selling opportunities within the hotel services and or offerings.
  • Facing COVID19- Create trust – Hygiene and transparent policies and operations are crucial to protect employees and clients.
  • Use more personalization, private experiences- less time in the common public areas, and more time on one to one wellness professional.
  • Use and potentialize the Spa suites packages- one to one.
